    Bucket Hats

The easiest hat to wear and the easiest to pack. A bucket hat asks nothing of you - no shaping, no fussing, no wondering whether it suits the occasion.

The soft downward brim is what makes it work. It shades without the drama of a wide brim, it sits low enough to stay on in wind, and it crushes into a bag and comes back out fine. That last part is why so many of ours sit at the top of our travel scale.

We make them in crochet raffia and wheat straw for summer, cotton for everyday, and corduroy, wool and sherpa for the cold months. A bucket hat is not a seasonal shape - only the material is.

    Why Choose a Bucket Hat?

    • The most packable silhouette we make - most fold flat and recover
    • Soft downward brim gives real shade without a wide brim
    • Raffia and straw for summer, corduroy, wool and sherpa for winter
    • Stays on in wind, which a stiff brim will not
    • Works with everything, which is why it never quite goes away
    • Sized with an adjuster inside most styles

Every bucket here carries a travel rating, so you can see at a glance which ones roll into a weekender and which want a little more care.

Frequently Asked Questions about Bucket Hats

    Do bucket hats pack well?
Better than almost anything else. The soft crown and downward brim have no structure to lose, so most fold flat and recover on their own. Ours are rated on a five-point travel scale and the majority sit at Travel Ready or Easy Traveler. The exceptions are braided raffia styles, which crack under a hard fold and are rated accordingly.
What's the difference between a bucket hat and a sun hat?
Brim width and structure. A bucket hat has a narrow, soft brim that angles down all the way round. A sun hat usually has a wider, flatter brim built to throw more shade. A bucket is easier to wear and to pack; a sun hat covers more.
Can you wear a bucket hat in winter?
Yes, and it's one of the more useful winter hats. In corduroy, wool or sherpa it covers the ears better than a fedora and stays on in wind. The shape is year round - only the material changes.
How should a bucket hat fit?
Snug enough that it doesn't lift in wind, loose enough to leave no mark on your forehead. The brim should sit just above your eyebrows. Most of ours have a velcro adjuster inside the sweatband, so one size genuinely fits.
