Size & Fit Guide

Most Wyeth hats are one size, with a velcro adjuster inside the sweatband. The adjuster sizes down, never up - so the number that matters is the largest the hat will go.

Measure your head once, then check the fit line on any product page. A few styles come in set sizes instead, and those say so on the page.

How to measure your head

It takes about thirty seconds and you only ever have to do it once.

  1. Two hands holding a tape measure around the back of a head, level just above the ears
    Step one

    Wrap

A soft tape measure around your head, just above your ears and across the middle of your forehead - where a hat actually sits.

  2. Side view of a head with the tape held level across the forehead, a finger marking the spot at the temple
    Step two

    Keep it level

Snug, but not tight - one finger should slide underneath without a fight.

  3. A tape measure laid flat on a table, one hand marking the point where the ends meet with a pencil
    Step three

    Mark it and read it

Mark where the ends meet, then read the number in centimeters. No tape measure? A strip of paper or a length of string does the same job. That number is what you compare against the fit line on any product page.

Most styles are one size

The adjuster sizes down rather than up, so the number on the page is the largest that style will go. The fit line above Add to Cart tells you which kind you are looking at.

Some styles come in set sizes

A handful of styles are graded Small, Medium and Large instead of one size, and those have no adjuster - so the number has to be right the first time. Their product page says so above the Add to Cart button.

Between two sizes? Size up. These styles have no adjuster, so there is no way to gain room later - and felt holds its shape rather than giving with wear.

Fit tips

  • Between two numbers on a one-size style? The adjuster only sizes down, so go by the largest number the style will go to. If your measurement is above it, the hat will be tight and there is no way to gain room.
  • Feels loose? That is what the adjuster is for. Tighten it a little at a time rather than all at once, and try the hat on between each turn.
  • Hair up or hair down? Measure the way you actually plan to wear it. A high crown leaves room for hair up; a low crown sits close and does not.
  • Wearing it in wind, or on a boat? Size to the snug end of your range - a hat that is perfect standing still is loose at speed. Or wear one with a stampede strap, which ties under the chin and holds the hat on whatever the weather does.
  • Accessories do not need a size. Bandanas, scarves and bags are one size by nature - their product pages carry dimensions instead.
  • Felt behaves differently from straw. Straw gives a little with wear. Felt holds its shape, so get the number right the first time.
Fit is a guide, not a rule. Every Wyeth style is built on its own block, so two hats with the same number can still wear differently - a deep crown feels smaller than a shallow one at the same circumference. Always check the fit line on the product page for the style you are looking at.

HOW THE ADJUSTER WORKS

Inside the sweatband, next to the Wyeth label, there is a velcro strap. Pull it free, overlap it a little further, press it back down. That is the whole mechanism.

It sizes down, never up - so a style fits anyone at or below its number, and no one above it. That is why measuring first matters.

Most people set it once and never think about it again.
